Master Patrick Marsch to Teach Escrima Class Oct 28

Master Marsch will be teaching an Escrima Seminar at the United States Karate Academy on Friday, October 28 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm.  He was trained by one of the best Masters in the Phillipines.  Class is FREE for all Black Belt Club and Leadership Students.  This will be a great kickoff to our new Escrima class that is set to begin in November 2011.

The Halloween Party will be held on Wednesday, October 26

This year's USKA Halloween Party will be held during your regular class time on Wednesday, October 26.  It will be a Potluck party and USKA will provide hamburgers, hot dogs, buns, condiments, plates, napkins, and drinks.  The party will include a short class, obstacle course, and costume contest.  Feel free and stick around after your class and hang out or come early.  Bring your favorite food or drink to share.

New Weapons Classes and More!

USKA is rolling out new classes, including Kicks & Tricks, Championship Sparring, Nunchaku, Advanced Bo Staff, and Escrima.  Classes begin in November 2011, see staff members for details.

Mr. Salim Odero to teach Capoeira at Leadership Class – May 6

The Leadership Class on Friday, May 6 will feature Mr. Salim Odero as a guest instructor.  All Leadership students are welcome to attend and he will be teaching Capoeira.  Capoeira is a Brazilian form of dance and martial arts.

New 50+ Class at USKA – Silver Dragons!

Beginning this week, USKA is starting a new 50 year old plus karate class…Silver Dragons! It's a fairly slower paced class, but will still have the same Tang Soo Do curriculum as the adult classes. It's free for the whole month of May, and classes will be held each Tuesday and Thursday from 10 am to 10:45 am. 

Private Lessons for Karate, Kickboxing, and Bootcamp at USKA

Get the most out of your martial arts investment with private lessons from the professional staff at USKA.  You can customize what you want to work on or let the instructor form a plan for you.  Mr. Cerezo, Mr. Hunnewell, Mr. Rangel, and Mr. Bernal are all available for karate lesson.  Mr. Yahner is available for advanced Youth and Adults and Miss Farris is available for Kickboxing and Bootcamp Privates.  Lessons can be for one, two, or three students and prices are discounted accordingly.   

USKA March 2011 Testing set for Tuesday, March 29.

This month's testing is being held on Tuesday, March 29.  The test will go for all Tiny Tigers from 4:30 to 5:10 pm (3-6 yrs), 5:15 to 6:45 pm for Youth, and and 7:00 to 8:30 pm for all Adults.  Please arrive to the studio 15 minutes early so that we may start the testing promptly at the designated times.   Also make sure to complete your testing application and pay the $55 testing fee as soon as possible.  An additional $20 fee is required for all students testing for 9th Gup and is a one-time membership fee for the World Tang Soo Do Association.  This membership will be valid until you test for First Degree Black Belt.  If you are not scheduled to test this month, please do not come to class on March 29, but you are more than welcome to come watch and if you have never seen a test, we encourage you to do so.

USKA's Annual Cowles Mountain Hike will take place on Sunday, March 26 at 1:00 pm.

Every year, the students, instructors, and parents of USKA make their annual hike up Cowles Mountain.  Bring your friends, family, and significant others to this year's trip.  Feel free to also bring any snacks, juices, waters, and anything else appropriate for yourself or the group.

Part of the Mission Trails Regional Park, the mountain was named after an early San DIego rancher names George Cowles.  The summit is the highest point in San Diego = and reaches to 1,593 ft.  For many years it was known as 'S' Mountain, originating from a group of 500 SDSU students who painted a 400 foot tall S on the side of the landmark in 1931.  The S was covered by the United States Military in 1942 during World War II for national security reasons.  The S painting tradition was resurrected after the bombing threat was gone, only to be shut down by environmentalist complaints in the 1970's.  As of today, the area is protected by law and no S has been painted there for over two decades.

S.D. Indie Fest, Liberty Station, March 12 & 13 - The United States Karate Academy will be hosting a booth at Indie Fest  right here in Liberty Station on March 12 and 13.

The United States Karate Academy will be hosting a booth at the 2011 San Diego Indie Fest being held right here in Liberty Station on March 12 and 13.  The event will feature 80 performances on 5 stages including headliners We Are Scientists, Vokab Kompany, AWOLNATION, and Danielle LoPresti & The Masses.  

We will there to spread the passion of the marital arts to the masses of San Diego alternative rock fans who show up for this event year in and year out.

If anyone is looking for a free ticket, we are seeking a minimum of 4 security guards who can volunteer 4 hours of their time there between noon and midnight. If you can, you will receive two free passes for the event (for Sat. and Sun.) and 2 free drink tickets.
